When she was a kid she was subjected to racial taunts by many people in America. If she attended school contests and received great praise for her performance, in ninth grade, the girl began to grow more confident. In 1993, she made her Broadway debut with Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was You've Got Mail. The role in The lad from The Lake became her greatest breakthrough, bringing herself the Tony Award in addition to praise from critics for her role. The following year, she appeared on the ABC series Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider acceptance for the role. In addition to having a cult following as a singer, she released a solo and a longer piece. In addition, she has been a vocal advocate for LGBT concerns.
